Ambergate got off to a great start to the new season with a comprehensive 3-1 victory over league newcomers Newhall Utd Reserves.
This was a home fixture for Ambergate but had to be played at Moorways as the Thomas William recreation ground isn’t ready but this didn’t have an effect on the outcome as Ambergate came from a goal behind.
Ambergate started slowly and got punished on 15 minutes when the Newhall winger scored after beating three Ambergate defenders. This was a wake-up call for Ambergate and they started to create chances, with Bestwick and Clark both going close. The equaliser came on the half hour when Boot was brought down. Craig Tipton stepped up to hit a trademark free kick into the top corner.
It was a much quicker start to the second half from Ambergate and they took the lead after Richard Clark scored on his league debut. Ambergate were dominant but needed the third goal and it finally came as Clark beat the offside trap and finished. This was three points at the first attempt for the new management.
