Hornets still creating a buzz after latest victory

Have your say

It’s so far so good for Amber Valley Hornets Ladies Hockey Club after their latest victory in the Derbyshire Division One.

Two cleverly lifted shots and a tap-in at the post gave Charlotte Welsby a first half hat-trick that set the Hornets well on their way to a second successive league victory.

And when Bev Allen took up her familiar position at the left hand post to knock the ball home, the Hornets were able to take a 4-0 lead into the break.

The second half saw good attacking play and several opportunities for both teams to get on the scoresheet.

Ashbourne defended in numbers and their goalkeeper made a number of fine saves but, as Emily Hall and Kate Turner started to push up the wings from defence, a quick free hit led to Sarah Joyce getting rewarded for her continuous efforts.

Then there was still time for Ashbourne to complete the scoring with a much deserved goal, but it was too late to catch the Hornets, who wrapped up a 5-1 win.

Hornets are at home to Asterdale 2nds in the league, with game starting at 10.30am at Ripley Mill Hill School.
