heanor running club another one-two Heanor Running Club recorded a one-two for the second time this season in the Booths Decorators League on Sunday at Trent Meadows, Long Eaton. On a beautifully cold morning, the Heanor RC duo of Mark Powell and Joe Rainsford led from the gun and rounded off a busy racing weekend in the top two positions. Over a mostly flat, two-lap 4.5 mile course, Powell (26:33) took control at the halfway stage and took the tape 14 seconds clear of Rainsford (26:47) in second. Ashley Deeming (28:00) stormed round to his highest position of the season so far in fifth place with Paul Clarke, off the back off his 10k PB-performance at Leeds Abbey Dash two weeks previously, finishing a further 11 seconds adrift in sixth. Steve Ashmore (28:51) secured a top ten

finish once again in ninth.

Tony Weatherson (30:00) continued his strong cross country form to finish 15th while Ned Needham (32:37) took his place as the final team scorer in 40th.

Heanor RC’s women’s team was once again down to the bare minimum but managed to improve on a fifth placed-finish at Chaddesden Park with fourth this time around.

Lisa Palmer was the leading performer, finishing third female to the impressive Sarah Harris of Long Eaton RC and Mansfield AC’s Liz Lilley.

The England international ran a strong race to finish in 31st position in a time of 31:22.

Palmer was backed up by fellow international Jill Burke (34:55) in 72nd and 2012 Heanor RC Club Champion Gemma Housley (38:33), who finished 120th.

With no team races left in the diary for this year, next up for Heanor Running Club will be the Derbyshire Cross Country Championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, on Saturday, January 5.
