WITH just over a week to go until the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations get underway with street parties and concerts across the UK, Heanor Running Club will be doing their part to commemorate this historic event by hosting a special ten-kilometre race later this summer.
Entries are now being taken for the Heanor RC Jubilee 10K, sponsored by Up & Running.
The debut edition of the road race will be held on Friday, June 13 at Shipley Hall Cricket Club and will be accompanied by a two-mile fun run plus other events to mark the Queen’s Diamond year.
Communities all around the country will be celebrating in various forms over the extended bank holiday weekend at the beginning of June and Heanor Running Club hope the Jubilee 10K in July will be another way to get involved this summer.
Held in between the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the London Olympics, the Jubilee 10K replaces the Heanor Five-Mile event in the local road racing calendar for 2012.
Starting and finishing at Shipley Hall Cricket Club, the route will take in parts of Shipley Country Park and the surrounding area.
The mixture of rolling hills and scenic Derbyshire countryside should appeal to both beginners and experienced runners alike.
Supported by Mick Hall photos and Runners World, the Heanor RC Jubilee 10K and two mile fun run will be followed by a presentation, buffet and other activities to commemorate this special occasion.
With just over seven weeks to go, entries can be made by post or online. See www.heanorrunningclub.com for details.
