After a gap of almost 20 years, the Ramathon is back.

The half-marathon run, sponsored by Oviso, will be taking place on Sunday, June 8.

It has been 18 years since the old Ramathon took place from Moorways Stadium and race director Richard Kay, said: “It is fantastic to be bringing a half marathon event back to the area.

“This new Ramathon will be a bit different to the old Derby Ramathon in the sense that it won’t be taking place around the main city roads due to the major disruption it would cause and instead, it starts and finishes in the magnificent grounds of Elvaston Castle, just outside the city boundary.”

Sarah Fullaway, director of Derby-based firm, Oviso, who are sponsoring the event, commented: “I love running, so it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to help Richard and his team get this event re-launched; we’re thrilled to be sponsoring what promises to be a major sporting event in the area”.

The flat route utilises the stunning grounds and surrounding area and offers fantastic potential for a personal best time for seasoned runners, but is also perfect for the first timers. In addition to the main half marathon event, there will be a Mini Ramathon around the grounds of Elvaston Castle.

The fun run will be targeting participation from young children and their families as well as to providing entertainment whilst the half marathon event is taking place.

There is a strict limit of 1,000 entries for the 13.1 mile event, and Richard Kay added: “We have limited our entry numbers as our aim is to create a quality event for the new Ramathon with a view that we can increase these numbers year on year”.

The beneficiaries of the event are Derby Mountain Rescue Team and the Alzheimer’s Society and runners are encouraged to raise sponsorship for these charities.

Kevin Corcoran from Derby Mountain Rescue said: “We’re thrilled to be selected by the Ramathon organisers and are looking forward to seeing this great race return to the region”.

“We’ll be on hand on the day to join in the fun and help out with our specialised skills if required”.
