Ripley Amateur Boxing Club has successfully secured funding through Sport England’s Sportivate scheme for just under £800.
This money from the Lottery-funded programme will allow the club, which is based at the Unicorn Business Park, on Wellington Street, Ripley, to run two blocks of six-week sessions, offering a non-contact introduction to boxing, plus fitness training.
The sessions are aimed at those aged 11-25. The first block starts on Thursday, October 17 and the second block is to be run after Christmas.
Normal classes are still running at the club on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Club secretary Zoe Davies said: “We were very pleased when we found out we were successful in getting this funding.
“You can never be fully confident when applying but we were certainly hopeful and it was good to hear the news.
“It will help the club and also young people round here who want to try an introduction to boxing in a non-contact format and do also some fitness training.”
Ripley Amateur Boxing Club has been running since 2009 and recently welcomed a new team of volunteer coaches.
