Amber Valley Hornets’ second team - the Bees - recorded a 5-1 win over Ashbourne 3rds in their penultimate game of the season.

The first Bees’ goal came on five minutes. With a number of forwards in attacking positions, the ball was put over the line by Leanne McCulloch. The second goal, although a long time coming, was created by a fantastic passing move, and the finish was supplied by Caroline Scott.

Ashbourne came out strongly after the break and took full advantage of an awarded short corner, firing home a powerful strike to cut the lead. Ashbourne were looking capable of drawing level but the Bees countered and with a short corner of their own, restored their two-goal cushion when Abi Grocutt pushed out with Lauren Fox converting the opportunity. This turned out to be the first goal of Fox’s three in this match.

The attacking midfielder completed her hat trick following more excellent play by the Bees, whose passing and movement right throughout was a big factor in this great win.

Fox was awarded player of the match honours by both teams.

The Bees play their final match of the season on Saturday at Ripley Mill Hill School against Belper 4ths.
