Amber Valley Hornets continued their excellent start to the Derbyshire Division One season on Saturday with a 5-2 win at Belper 3rds.

An early goal from Ellesha Garner at the left hand post was just the start the Hornets needed, but Belper were soon level when a cross into the D took a deflection and crept over the line.

The game could have gone either way at this point and, as both teams pushed forward, it was Sarah Joyce who found the back of the net twice before half time to settle the Hornets’ nerves.

With fresh legs on the sideline always available, the Hornets switched the ball well in midfield and as Jamie Garner and Alex Ormston attacked down the wings, a penalty corner gave the opportunity for Vicki Wain to push the ball onto the keeper’s pads and into the corner of the net.

Another goal from Ellesha Garner completed the Hornets’ scoring, and Belper too added to their tally when they broke quickly, moved the ball at pace and fired home with a shot that flew into the back of the net.

Next for the Hornets is a home game on Saturday against Matlock Baileans 3rds.
