The future looks bright for the flourishing Aldercar and Langley Mill Boxing Club as it forges ahead with its project to build a new base.
The club, based on Queen Street in Langley Mill, has received planning permission to build a new boxing club and gym on the site of its current home, a move that head coach David Goulding believes is positive for the club, and the community as a whole.
He explained: “Our eventual aim will be to knock down the current gym and build a new improved base so we’re delighted to get planning permission.
“The club has been here about 20 years and these are exciting plans that will take the club to the next level.
“We are now at the stage where we are getting the structural designs done and then we move onto funding.
“We want to hear from local businesses and individuals who think they can assist us with this project. It’s a big thing for us and it’s open-ended in terms of timescale because we want to make sure we get it absolutely right.
“One of our main jobs is to investigate funding bodies because there are different options for us to look at.
“When it’s all finished, it is going to help us expand what we do here. The better facilities will mean a two-storey building with kitchen, male and female toilets and changing rooms, room for us to run more classes and it can be hired out to other groups in the community.
“We are a full club at the moment with an extended waiting list too. Just in the last couple of weeks we’ve had five more joining, so things are going well for us and to get the planning permission means we can look positively ahead.”
