RIPLEY Running Club entering three teams in the Saucony English Cross Country Relays in Mansfield Berry Hill Park, and the event had some of the finest elite runners from all over the country.
The day was to say the least very wet as the heavens opened and made the course extremely muddy, but this didn’t deter anyone from taking part including the three teams which Ripley RC had entered.
There were two ladies teams and one men’s team. The ladies event were teams of three running 3km each while the men had a team of four doing 5km each.
The atmosphere of the day was great with 157 men’s teams and 104 ladies teams pushing their selves to the limit.
Ripley “A” ladies team finished in 66th place Caroline Moss (13.07), Paula Brudenell (14.42) and Lucy Holmes (12.19) with a combined time of 40 mins 09 secs.
Ripley “B” ladies team finished in 93rd place Cathy Cresswell (13.51), Claire Duffin (15.09) and Vicky Leach (15.52) in a combined time of 44 mins 52 secs.
The men’s team however came back in 113th place, Ian Duffin (22.05), Martin Penny (21.41), Dean Taylor (20.21) and Matt Bickerstaff came back in a super time of (19.24) in a combined time of 1 hour 23mins.
Also on the same day there was the “no walk in the park” 5km race this a monthly time trial race held on the first Saturday of every month with the route taking you around the boundaries of Queens Park in Chesterfield, Simon English from Ripley RC did this race in an outstanding time of 20 mins 34 secs finishing in 16th place 38 ran.
On Sunday it was the Cannon Hill 10km race near Birmingham over 200 runners competing in this flat course which had a loop around Cannon Hill park then carried on up the Rea Valley Path.
Antoinette Franco was hoping to carry on from her personal best the week before in the Worksop Half Marathon and she prevailed by beating her best 10km time by over a minute she came back in 56 minutes and two seconds.
