After being unbeaten in the Under 15s DCL Division Three league for so long, Codnor Boys were brought down to earth with a severe bump on Sunday, losing 4-0 at home to title rivals Castle Donington.
Codnor started the game well, earning a number of early corners. Soar and James went close, before Cashmore saw a header flash wide from a corner.
On nine minutes, against the run of play, a free-kick was conceded 35 yards from goal. Radcliffe fired in a vicious ball to the far post, where it took a nick off Wood and nestled in the top corner.
Codnor continued to create the better chances, with Webster having a header well saved. On 26 minutes, the lead was doubled and seven minutes later it was 3-0. Atkin gave away a free-kick, and Radcliffe completed his hat-trick.
At the break, Codnor had to make changes, with a number of players injured and suffering with illness.
Despite improved possession and effort from Codnor, it was left to James to create the very few chances that Codnor could muster.
At the death Donington made it 4-0, after Codnor’s defence watched Bee walk through them to fire in.
Whilst most teams can perform when a small number of players have an off day, Codnor certainly cannot when it happens to the majority.
However, with Donington already suffering one defeat, all is still to play for.
Next is the visit of Spondon Dynamo to Kilburn Welfare, in what is now a must win game.
