Members of Ripley Amateur Boxing Club landed plenty of punches for a good cause at the weekend.

They took part in a ‘boxathon’ to raise funds for the club, as part of an open day that was held there on Saturday.

15 sponsored boxers, aged eight and upwards, set out to deliver 15,000 punches during the course of an hour and far exceeded their target, eventually reaching 20,089 at the end of the 60 minutes.

The evemt raised over £300 for the club, to be spent on new equipment. The club also had a coaching clinic and an Ozbox fitness session.

RABC has been running since 2009 and it recently welcomed a new team of volunteer coaches responsible for the day-to-day running of the club. It is based at the Unicorn Business Park, Wellington Street, Ripley.

Secretary Zoe Davies said: “We had a great morning and smashed the goal of 15,000 punches. There were 15 people punching, three holding the pads, and we also had great support from the parents who came along to cheer us on. The money will go towards buying new equipment here so we’re pleased with how it went.”
