Ben impresses in Olympic pursuit

BELPER Marlin and Derventio Excel swimmer Ben Goodall was in excellent form as he competed in the British Championships and Olympic trials last week.

It was a fantastic experience and achievement for this Belper School pupil who stormed the Olympic pool in London.

In his usual unstoppable form, Goodall swam in the 400m individual medley event on March 3, finishing just outside his PB but still third in his age group in a time of 4:43.09.

On March 5 he swam a PB of 2:10.63 in the 200m butterfly.

Goodall then went on to swim a County Long Course record with a six second PB in the 1500m freestyle at the trials on Friday in a time of 16:23.79, breaking his own county records, both senior and junior.

After a hectic week in London, Goodall then went on to represent Marlin in the Derbyshire ASA County Championships tin Chesterfield where he continued to smash club records.

Ben’s mum Jackie said: “It is a very impressive venue and fantastic for Ben to get a chance to compete in it. “Marlin are very proud of their Olympic hopeful and it looks like Ben is on track for the Olympic dream!”
