Friday night saw Ripley Ravens Basketball Club host a friendly game with players from a Back to Basketball session running at Shirebrook Leisure Centre, in the Bolsover District.
The match was arranged between the two sides after the coach of the Shirebrook team saw a news article in the Ripley and Heanor News promoting the Ripley session and contacted the club.
Back to Basketball sessions have been taking place in Shirebrook since February and have seen a regular 9-10 people attending each week, aged between 16 to 41 years.
Similar to Ripley, individuals attending are travelling considerable distances to the sessions, with participants travelling from as far as Tansley, Sheffield and West Bridgford.
With Ripley looking to the future, now having 25 members - their ultimate aim is to join the Nottinghamshire Basketball League - the game provided the perfect opportunity for teams to put their skills into practice.
Ripley started the game the stronger, though Shirebrook remained in contention and throughout the first half and into the third quarter only a few points separated both teams, with the scores tied 25-25 at the end of the third quarter.
With players from both sides getting tired it was the team from Shirebrook who dug deep and managed to pull away in the last few minutes, with the final score 38-25.
Players from both sides would like to thank Andy Bales, who kindly refereed the game.
They are now looking forward to a rematch at Shirebrook Leisure Centre on June 6.
Ripley and Shirebrook teams are always on the lookout for new members.
Sessions at Ripley take place every Friday at Ripley Leisure Centre between 7pm and 9pm. Ripley Ravens are currently looking to add a Level 1 or Level 2 coach to their team to help further develop the sessions and to support the current players/coaches.
