Amber Valley & Erewash Athletics Club member Jethro McGraw became the National Under-15 boys 800m champion last weekend, and he achieved it in some style.
Jethro’s impressive running season of late saw him take gold in the England Athletics National Championships held at Bedford.
Competing in the Under-15s boys 800m, the 14-year-old Amber Valley and Erewash Athletic Club member ran a tactically superb race, storming in to the lead and then sprinting away from the others off the final bend.
His winning time of one minute 58.55 was a new personal best and was also the second fastest run in the UK so far this year over the distance.
The achievement continued his great recent form.
Only a month ago he had posted a new championship best performance at the Northern Athletics Track and Field Championships in Hull and prior to that he had gained a silver medal at the English Schools Finals when he produced another sub-two-minute run in the Under-15 boys 800m to break the existing record by two seconds.
