Amber Valley Hornets first team easily beat Derby’s third team 5-0 at the weekend.

Hornets started this match in a tentative fashion and Derby took early control of the possession and pushed the Hornets back into their own half.

But, against the run of play, the ball found Charlotte Welsby who thumped her shot home from top D.

The goal allowed the Hornets to settle into their rhythm and, as Jennie Bowmer started to take a more attacking role in midfield flanked by Aex Ormston and Carol Hall, they started to push forward.

Derby responded well and defended in numbers, making it difficult for the Hornets to make headway into their D.

But then Sarah Joyce broke from distance to jink around the defence and push the ball into the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

From the whistle the second half started as the first with Derby controlling possession and they were unlucky not to open their account when the ball bounced around on the Hornets goal line only to be cleared to safety to the relief of the home side.

Both Sarah Joyce and Charlotte Welsby added a further goal each to extend the Hornets lead, but still Derby kept forcing the Hornets back and only some fine saves and blocks from Tanya Rouse in the net kept a clean sheet.

At the other end Derby’s keeper was also called into action and made some good saves of her own but it was Jayne Notman who had the last word when she completed the scoring from close range.
