A creditable second place

RASCALS swimmers recently travelled to Arnold where they finished in a very creditable second place in the second round of the Notts Autumn league.

Under newly-appointed head coach Glenn Fisher, the Ripley-based club beat teams from Sutton, Portland, Southwell and Falcon, finishing second only to a strong Kimberley team.

There were some particularly notable swims from the boys’ team, with first places being achieved by Jason Lockwood (50m breaststroke), Matt Cross (25m butterfly and 50m freestyle), Jamie Ingram (50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly), Josh Bee-Tong (50m backstroke), and Alex Wright (50m freestyle), with five of the relay teams winning their events.

Karen Dening was in fine form, winning the 50m butterfly in a personal best time of 34.60s, and helping the Open girls team to first place in the freestyle relay, along with Jess Cross, Vicky Threlfall and Jess Lockwood.

The nine-year old girls’ team of Jess Hancock, Kezia Emerton, Jennifer Conway and Leila Grainger also swam well to finish in second place in the freestyle relay, and third in the medley relay, gaining valuable competition experience in so doing.

There were twelve individual personal bests in all on the night: Ella Ingram (50m backstroke), Isabel Thompson (50m breaststroke), Mia Barber (50m freestyle), Kizzi Smith (50m back), Fearn Middleton (50m breaststroke), Vicky Threlfall (50m breaststroke), Karen Dening (50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly), Matt Cross (50m freestyle), Ben Coyle (50m back), Jamie Ingram (50m breaststroke) and Frazer Crump (50m butterfly).
