It’s been a long while coming but - at the 13th time of asking - Marehay won their first match of the Derbyshire Premier League season, moving out of the bottom two as a result of their success.
Away to Spondon, Richard Wood’s side went on to win the game by eight runs in a tense finish.
Batting first after winning the toss, Marehay were eventually dismissed for a competitive total of 224 in 49.3 overs.
After two ducks at the top of the order, they recovered well from a tricky early position of 7-2.
Matthew Bailey (19) and Robert Peat (33) steadied the ship well before Ben Gartside took centre stage.
His knock of 63 was made off 74 balls and contained five fours and five sixes.
Gaz Buckley also chipped in with 25 and there were also an excellent contributions from James Kyte, who scored 38 and would go on to a have good all-round game for his side.
Waseem Fazal was the most successful bowler for Spondon, returning figures of 5-47 from 12.3 overs.
Spondon’s captain Joe Ashdown took two wickets in support.
In reply, Spondon also lost a couple of early wickets as James Kyte claimed Josh Brear and James Richards cheaply.
The key stand of the innings then followed, between Ben Ashdown (51) and David Hartley (59).
Between them, they put Spondon in a decent position but Marehay kept plugging away with some disciplined bowling.
There was a late flurry from Tom Williams with 21 not out from 22 balls but in the end, Marehay bowled Spondon out for 216 in 48.3 overs.
All four of the Marehay bowlers used on the day chipped in with wickets.
