Marehay’s second team were without a fixture but benefitted from other results over the weekend as none of their promotion rivals took advantage of their games in hand.
They remain in second place, eight points behind leaders Heanor having played a game less and with a 14-point cushion over Chesterfield in third place.
This Saturday Marehay seconds entertain lowly Allestree and will be looking to strengthen their position going into the last weekend’s traditional double-header.
Division 7 North – Marehay 3rd XI 138/8 (7pts) drew with West Hallam 2nd XI 167/5 (16pts)
Marehay’s third team were left hanging on for a draw against second-placed West Hallam at Charles Hill on Saturday.
West Hallam made a poor start in slipping to 58/5 but recovered well to reach 167/5 from their 46 overs, thanks largely to Oliver Hubbard who batted through the innings for an unbeaten 88 and received good support from Rob Lathbury (47 not out) in an unbroken partnership of 109 for the sixth wicket.
Wickets takers for Marehay were Ben Fletcher (2/18), John Longdon (1/30) and Chris Hamp (1/10).
In reply, the home side’s top order all made good starts but none of them went on to make a match winning score as Joe Spray (17), Lewis Palmer (16), Jamie Selby (18), Andy Bromley (29), Reece Edwards (27) and Matt Wilkinson (14) all chipped in to a score of 138/8. All four West Hallam bowlers picked up wickets, with Anthony Henshaw (4/34) the pick.
Marehay remain in sixth place in the table with an away fixture at Whitmoor RC to look forward to this Saturday.
