Denby CC 1sts secured a comfortable eight-wicket win over visitors Lullington Park in the Derbyshire Premier League on Saturday.

Joe Greenhalgh won the toss for Denby and asked Lullington Park to bowl first.

Will Davis struck with the first ball of the innings to give Denby the best possible start, earning an LBW decision against Lullington opener Andrew Goodwin.

Davis then added the wicket of James Doherty to his tally early on to reduce the visitors to 22-2.

After that, there were a number of steady contributions from the rest of the batting order without anyone being able to go on and make a decisive score.

Skipper Jonathan Shales proved to be the top scorer with 30 while Martin Walters (25) and Matthew Sanderson (24) also chipped in with useful additions to the total.

In the end, Lullington Park were restricted to 174-7 from their 50 overs.

Will Davis led the way with the ball, recording the fine figures of 5-30 from 13 overs.

Denby’s reply saw them lose Brad Davis early on for just two but his fellow opener Alexander Eyre teamed up with Rehan Hassan for what proved to the match’s decisive partnership.

Together, they put on 157 for the second wicket before Eyre departed for a fine 65.

Rehan Hassan was still there at the end though, making an unbeaten 75, and he was accompanied over the finishing line by Greg Cork (13 not out) as victory was achieved by eight wickets in 47th over.

Meanwhile, Denby 2nds earned a draw with Swarkestone, ending on 180-9 in reply to 230-9 in Division Three, while in Division 5N, the third were bowled out for 112 and lost by three wickets to Swarkestone.
