Tackling an uphill task

14 members of Ripley Running Club ran the recent Masson Hill fell race.

The course consisted of a short section of tarmac leading to a steep hilly climb, then onto footpaths and tracks giving views of the Derwent Valley and surrounding hills.

First back for Ripley was Luke Beresford (32.10), then Matt Jones (33.03), Ian Duffin (35.59), Wayne Smithurst (38.12), Simon English (38.16), Ryan Ball (38.38), Tim Jacques (39.32), Carl Hopkinson (41.06), Dennis Holmes (41.18), Esther Broughton (45.45), Matt Nicholls (46.08), Jay Bird (53.35), Mike Corrigan (53.46) and Rob Swift (64.49)

Dean Taylor also finished in 16th place out of 118 runners with a time of 50.53 in the Cresswell Crawl Fell Race. The 6.5 mile course was a beautiful but hilly setting in the Wye Valley area of Derbyshire.

In addition, the Lichfield Half Marathon saw two members of Ripley run this undulating course in the sunshine. Rich Phillis ran it in 1.32.38 and James Franco ran in 2.09.38.

Luke Beresford came second overall in the Wirksworth Wiggle with an impressive time of 41.29.

The 10k course was of mixed terrain over road, footpaths and the high peak trail into the stunning surrounding of the White Peak area.

Four members of the club also took part in the Erewash 5k, set in the lovely grounds of West Park Leisure Centre. It had been a wet and windy morning but the sun came out just in time for the runners.

First three back for Ripley all ran personal bests, Dave Kinder (20.04) Vicky Leach (24.01) James Franco (24.34) and finally running her 5K debut was one of the club’s newest members Jo Brown (28.53).

Ripley Running Club meetS every Tuesday, 6.45 at Ripley Leisure Centre, Derby Road, and encourages runners of all abilities to come and join in for a run.
