Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch will be backed – at the end of the current season – with significant funds to shape the Derbyshire CCC squad.
Chairman Chris Grant says the required finances will be available to recruit seasoned professionals who can be match-winners, as well as leading and nurturing the club’s emerging young talent.
Grant said: “When Graeme was appointed back in January, he was given a very clear objective by the Supervisory Board, summarised as follows:
“Establish a team which is consistently able to compete in the First Division of the LV= County Championship and also both one-day competitions whilst providing England players throughout the representative system and a strong pipeline of locally produced talent, capable of delivering sustained success for the club.
“Clearly, the board was aware that, for Graeme to achieve this ambitious objective, he would require two things; time and additional financial resources.
“We are five months into a process, which the board believed would take until at least the end of the 2016 season. Graeme has already learnt a huge amount about the squad he has inherited and that process continues.
“He sees huge potential in some of our home produced youngsters and is confident that he has a core of senior players that can take the club forward.
“However, he will also have an opportunity to make changes to his squad, either at the end of this season or next. The club will ensure that Graeme is given every possible support on the financial side to allow him to recruit the kind of high-calibre player necessary to deliver our stated cricketing goals.”
