Sharp shooter broke four British Junior records

Heanor archer Hollie Smith has been called up into the England Under-18s squad for the forthcoming home nations competition.

The call-up is the reward for a terrific year of results achieved by the youngster whose scores from her best four results were sent in from nominated record status shoots.

Incredibly, Marlpool Junior School pupil Hollie, recently turned 11, gained the call-up when she was just ten-years-old!

Last year she had been chosen as the reserve for the England team, and her aim since has been to get into the first team placings this year which she has done.

It is a terrific achievement bearing in mind there is only one place available for her to aim for.

The team consists of three girls on recurve bows, three boys on recurve, one boy and one girl on compound which is the place Hollie looks set to make her own for a long time.

The home nations competition will be held at Lilleshall on July 7.

It will be an incredibly busy day for her. She will not only be competing in the home nations event, but she will also be shooting individually in the national championships which are shot on the same day and on the same field.

Hollie only took up the sport around two-and-a-half years ago but she has progressed at such a meteoric rate she is now coached by Simon Scott, an ex England and great Britain archer.

A member of the Derby-based Pastures Archery Club, Hollie is sponsored by Custom Built Archery from Eakring in Nottinghamshire.
