The Keyworth Turkey Trot Half Marathon is one of the most successful local races which yet again was completely full within days of entries being opened.
Ripley Running Club members were taking part, and with a 1,000 runner entry limit this must be very pleasing for the 1st Keyworth Scout Group, for which the annual event raises funds.
Further proof of just how difficult it has become to secure an entry in this race is that Ripley RC had only thre participants this year, much lower than in previous years.
The three runners who did make the start line for Ripley would no doubt agree with the old maxim “quality over quantity” as all three of them ran fantastic times on the day.
First back for Ripley RC in 65th place out of the 869 finishers was Ryan Ball in a time of 1.29.24, which is just a minute outside his own personal best. Second Ripley runner was Richard Phillis in 177th place and a great time of 1.35.00 achieved having run the North Midlands Cross County 10k race only the day before this run.
The third and final Ripley RC runner in 366th position but absolutely smashing her own personal best to record a new PB of 1.44.42 was Ripley vet 45 category runner Angela Marie Forte, who has been racing non-stop throughout the last months and winning trophies or setting new standards as she goes.
Ripley Running Club meets every Tuesday at 6.45pm at RIpley Leisure Centre and encourages runners of all abilities to come and join for a run. Now is an ideal time to start running with plenty of spring races to aim for or simply as part of your early New Year’s resolution to get fit in 2014.
