Ripley Running Club sent a strong team to the Derbyshire County Half Marathon Championship race at Clowne with 14 members completing the distance.
Compared to previous years, the weather conditions were quite favourable with virtually no wind and only a couple of light showers throughout the morning.
First man home for Ripley, in 13th position, from 614 finishers in a very quick time of 1.23.26, was Luke Beresford followed only one minute later by Dean Taylor, 22nd in 1.24.57. Slightly longer intervals then separated third Ripley man Richard Phillis 61st, 1.29.54 and fourth-placed Simon English in 100th position in 1.34.32.
Next in for Ripley RC was Stacey Smith in a new personal best time of 1.36.15 and 119th place overall, but more importantly first lady in the Derbyshire County Championship.
Together with Cathy Cresswell who also set a new PB of 1.40.38, for 174th position and Esther Broughton 1.48.13, 282nd place, the three Ripley ladies then collected the County ladies team 1st place trophy.
The seven other Ripley members’ places and times were as follows: Dennis Holmes 139th/1.37.59, Dave Kinder 185th/1.41.19PB, Carl Hopkinson 225th/1.44.11, Mike Corrigan 349th/1.51.26, Steve Donoghue 354th/1.51.39, Alison Butlin 482nd/2.01.18 (debut run) and Vicky Leach 527th/2.08.08.
Ripley Running Club meets every Tuesday at 6.45pm at RIpley Leisure Centre and encourages runners of all abilities to come and join us for a run.
