Rhinos end season
Rugby Union friendly
Ripley Rhinos 1st XV 12pts
Millbrook 1st XV 22pts
RIPLEY Rhinos RFC finished the season with the visit of touring Millbrook from Southampton who eventually won a hugely enjoyable encounter by four tries to two.
Rhinos laid out the pitch and welcomed their visitors who had demolished a Mansfield side the previous day. The weather was good and there was a decent crowd cheering on both sides from the sidelines
The first half saw Millbrook score twice, converting one, with Ripley managing to reply with a decent try as winger Matt Whysall finished off a good blindside break, converted by fly-half Paul Buzzard.
Half time saw the score at 12-7 to the visitors but Ripley got a fortuitous equalising try just before the hour when a line-out catch and drive was disrupted by a Millbrook playing coming through the middle and ripping the ball; his pass back toward his backs was intercepted by a surprised Dave Arrowsmith and the prop made the most of it by launching himself at the winger in front of him and used his reach to touch down in the corner.
The visitors had the final word however and scored twice more to ease out 22-12 winners.
This was exactly what a touring game should be; competitive but played in a tremendous spirit.
Both teams retired to the Beehive to continue their festivities long into the evening.
On the pitch, winger Adam Chawner took the Abex Window Cleaning Contractors Player of the Match award from his team mates as a culmination of his effort and spirit shown since he joined the club
