Rangers miss out to Eagles

Matlock Eagles u18s 2

Ripley Rangers 1

After last week’s defeat, Ripley went back to Matlock again, but against an Eagles side with an unbeaten record.

Ripley started off best with excellent build-up play but just lacking the finishing ball to get through the Matlock defence.

Then against the run of play, and with Matlock’s first attack, Ripley found themselves one down with an error among the defence which should have been cleared on three seperate occassions.

Ripley were dominating possession but for no reward. Half-time came and and the scoreline did not reflect Ripley’s dominance.

Ripley were urged to do more of the same and minutes after the restart they had got back on terms with a long throw from Tom Bridge finding the head of Josh Timmis to steer in to the net.

Ripley were playing some great football but lacking with the final ball and again were behind to a thunderous shot from Matlock, leaving Ripley’s keeper with no chance. Ripley then had what looked to be a good goal disallowed for a foul on the keeper.

Ripley played their hearts out but for no gain, losing a game 2-1 which they dominated for large periods.

Ripley’s next match is at Wirksworth on October 28.
