Ripley Rangers under 14s have celebrating after beating Wingerworth JFC Under 14s in the Rowsley Primary Cup Final, played at South Normanton FC.

Rangers had made the final by knocking out Darley Dale 1-0, Buxton Cobras 10-1 and Leabrooks JFC 6-2.

Wingerworth took the lead with a shot from distance and would have gone 2-0 up if it wasn’t for a brilliant goalline clearance by Chester Norman, but the equalizer came before half-time when some great play by Ben Aspinall set Jake Woolley free to fire home the equalizer. A half-time scoreline of 1-1 was fair as, although Rangers had more possession, Wingerworth had perhaps the better chances.

The second half was another close encounter with Rangers keeper Sam Linford making a couple of smart saves but, after ten minutes, Rangers took the lead when the ball broke to Woolley, whose shot smacked against the bar and

rebounded against the diving keeper into the net.

The next 25 minutes saw Wingerworth pushing more players forward but the whole Rangers team were determined to hold onto this lead and they continued to win battles all over the pitch.

Captain Danny Bain led by example, playing with great determination and his experience as a great captain encouraged the lads to keep going until the final whistle.

Wingerworth continued to push more players forward but this gave Rangers more chances, in particular when Joe Martin shot wide when through on goal and then went on to hit the bar.

This was a very good game, between two determined teams, with some great scenes at the final whistle.

with Rangers deservedly winning the cup, putting the icing on the cake for a fantastic season.

The Rangers’ team have had a great first season in Division One after getting promoted last year by being Division Two champions.

With a few games to go, they beat the eventual champions Chesterfield Town 4-1 with a brilliant display, which inflicted Town’s biggest defeat on them for two seasons and went into their last league game with a change of winning the league.

Unfortunately, Town got their revenge with a win that sees them win the league for the second year running but Rangers can hold their heads up high, knowing that they are capable of beating any team in the division and winning the cup was a fantastic way to end a brilliant season.
