RIPLEY Running Club’s Anne Cook overcame terrible conditions to set a new personal best in a fantastic time of 3:52:58 in the Greater Manchester Marathon last weekend.

Gale force winds and torrential rain sweeping the course made conditions for running very difficult, making Anne’s time even more impressive.

She was 1412th across the finish line in a large field of 4508 finishers, with a further 166 runners failing to finish.

Other races

In other races last weekend, Ripley Runners fared well at the monthly No Walk in the Park 5k on Queen’s Park in Chesterfield.

Mark Tomlinson was the first Ripley Runner home, in a time of 20:02, finishing fourth in category, and 18th overall.

Fiona Alexander was first in her class in 20:51, 27th overall. Karl Tietz also won his category in 21:11, 30th overall and Vicky Leach finished third in category in 25:02, 58th overall. There were 74 runners.
