Palladino signs three-year deal

Tony Palladino has become the latest promotion winner to commit his long term future to Derbyshire by signing a three-year contract.

Palladino was a star performer with the ball during the club’s title-winning summer, taking 56 first-class wickets as Derbyshire garnered more bowling points than any other in the division.

Enjoying his finest hour with a game changing seven-wicket spell versus Kent, the 29-year-old recorded three five-wicket hauls during the 2012 campaign.

Signed from Essex in 2011, Palladino has since helped himself to 108 first-class wickets in two seasons, averaging 26.01.

His new ball partnership with Tim Groenewald totalled 98 dismissals in 2012 and 198 victims during the past two seasons combined.

Palladino has also provided useful contributions with the bat, scoring a valuable half-century during the decisive final fixture against Hampshire and registering his maiden first-class century versus Australia A back in July.

“This is fantastic news for me,” Palladino said. “To be able to commit the next three years to Derbyshire during the prime of my career is exactly what I wanted to do.

“The last couple of weeks have been fantastic. Winning the league and gaining promotion with this group of players was phenomenal. To now be able to sign a new contract is the icing on the cake.”

Head coach Karl Krikken added: “Tony has been incredible for us and securing his services for the next three seasons is a huge boost for the squad as we prepare for Division One cricket next season.

“He has become one of the most reliable performers with the ball on the county circuit as well capturing everything we want from a proud Derbyshire cricketer in terms of attitude, effort and endeavour.”
