Millers finish with a convincing victory
Nutbrook (5pts) 191-7 [46 overs] (F Holdt 53, Ri Henshaw 45, J Wharton 3-38) lost to Langley Mill Utd (22pts) 192-2 [33 overs] (P Bailey 81*, S Thimal 74*) by eight wickets
Langley Mill’s first team travelled to Nutbrook to finish the 2012 season and came away with a convincing victory.
With neither team having anything to play for apart from pride it was the Millers that shone through and finished a very creditable fifth in their first season in division two.
Bowling first the Millers feared a large total on a very quick outfield as Nutbrook raced away to 43 without loss after 8 overs.
Jay Holmes finally made the break through to leave Nutbrook 45 for 1 at 10 overs.
The introduction of Andrew Bailey and Jeff Wharton turned the good start Nutbrook had into a different game. Wharton took two wickets in three balls and Bailey struck at the other.
This brought overseas Fred Holdt and Witham to the crease who rescued Nutbrooks innings with a partnership of 61 but Wharton had Witham caught by Ben Scott to give him his 3rd wicket. Henshaw came in and hit a quick 45 before being bowled by Holmes. Holdt fell to Salmons caught by Holmes for 53 to leave Nutbrook on 191 off their 46 overs.
Langley Mill’s innings got off to a poor start with Jamie Salmons and Jay Holmes both falling inside six overs to leave the Millers 25 for 2.
That was soon forgotten about as Paul Bailey and Sajendra Thimal launched into the toothless Nutbrook attack.
Saturday’s hero Bailey was intent on finishing the season on a high and did so scoring an unbeaten 81 to leave him with 212 runs for the weekend.
Thimal unbeaten on 74 at the other end to give the Millers a convincing victory winning by eight wickets.
It has been a strange season with the weather but the Millers main aim was to stay up and compete which they have done. They will be looking to recruit a few new faces for next season and push on again.
