Late winner for Clay Cross
Clay Cross FC v Sherwood FC
CLAY Cross Town FC were involved in a thrilling game at Mill Lane last Saturday against league newcomers Sherwood Colliery FC.
The visitors were 2-0 up inside 20 minutes with Clay Cross struggling to get into gear.
But a storming second half provided some entertaining football. The recovery started with Rockie White getting two in two minutes. Firstly, on 56 minutes, a back post header followed closely by a 14-yard shot on the turn that beat the visitors’ keeper.
The visitors’ keeper, James Rice, pulled off a string of superb saves before he was finally beaten in the third minute of stoppage time.
Manager Asa Ingall brought on substitute James Hill and, with his first touch, he headed past Rice to win the game for Clay Cross Town.
Clay Cross take a trip to Humberside this Saturday to play Easington with a 3pm kick off. They are next at home on 29 September against DFS Welbeck Welfare, 3pm.
