Jake Brown’s Nottingham Forest blog: Forest must regroup against resurgent Peterborough United
So, I didn’t expect to be writing in the slightly disappointed manner that one point out of the last possible nine can bring.
But, after being bullied by our near neighbours all week long, we now go to Peterborough at the weekend in search of our first three points since the 1st of September.
Two defeats on the bounce saw us react to claim a point this past Tuesday night on a cold evening at the City Ground. Sean O’Driscoll called it ‘A step in the right direction’-I have to agree.
A very cautious Forest side underlined by their obvious reluctance to ‘hoof’ the ball into the final third despite the seconds ticking down, were clearly sticking to their principles.
Apparent boo’s at full-time were not only ridiculous, but more out of frustration I assume after completely dominating the second half.
A much better performance than the tight game we got on Sunday it must be said, a lust for clean sheets were obviously playing on the managers mind.
It was also quite clear to see the organisation with and without the ball had also been heavily looked at.
Despite occasionally lumping it upfront to the 5”9 Billy Sharp, Forest were slowly starting to look good again from back to front.
The energetic, though clearly not match sharp, Henri Lansbury, showed glimpses of the quality that could await us this season.
A very eager Radoslaw Majewski entered the fray on the hour mark. The pole had an instant impact, almost creating a goal with a drilled cross after tricky work close to the by-line.
A couple of great chances ensued, Lansbury forcing a smart save at the near post. And surely a sitter by Billy Sharps standards, missing his volley eight yards out after creating some space with a great first touch.
Forest just couldn’t break Blackburn down it seemed, despite claiming all the possession. The biggest cheer of the night might have been when Jermaine Jenas ditched his training gear and headed for the touchline.
Wearing his original number 36, the 29 year-old showed some good touches. In a 20 minute cameo we saw a display in which the former England midfielder was clearly feeling his way through the demands of first team football once again.
Peterborough United on Saturday will all of a sudden prove a sterner test than it did weeks ago. Two wins on the trot on their travels, The Posh are back at home and face us looking for their first three points at London Road this season. Another organised, disciplined display is required. A good solid start would be nice this time round away from home. Take our chances and this should see us smiling into the international break, in a game that realistically, we should be looking at taking maximum points from if we are to fulfil our ambitions this season - especially those of our owners.
