Heanor and Hall Road must do it again
Hall Road Rangers 3 Heanor Town 1
(Match abandoned after 86 minutes due to floodlight failure)
There were four minutes left when the lights went out on Heanor Town’s 91-mile trip to the outskirts of Hull to face Hall Road Rangers in Wednesday night’s game.
The Northern Counties East League have ruled that the game will be replayed on Wednesday, October 31.
Thus Heanor will be given a second chance to reverse what was only moments away from their sixth league defeat in their last seven games.
The generator running the floodlights ran out of diesel.
Hall Road Rangers went ahead on 25 minutes through new boy Rikky Paylor, who wrongfooted a defender and sent goalkeeper West the wrong way. This was against the run of play.
Heanor were up for the game and levelled three minutes before the interval when Stef Frost rose unchallenged to head home a corner.
Debutant Paylor put the home side back in front on 67 minutes from a cross by substitute Mark Griffin.
Danny Rickets came off the bench to seemingly make the game safe for the Humbersiders 11 minutes later when he headed home Alex Knaggs’s cross.
With only minutes left though, the lights faded into blackness and referee Ian Johnstone had no choice but to call the game off.
