Haslam hoping for USA success

LEON HASLAM goes in search of success in Monday’s sixth round of the World Superbike Championship at the Miller Motorsport Park near Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

And Haslam, sixth in the Championship, is keen to make amends after going narrowly close to a first BMW win at Donington ten days ago in round five. He only lost out in the final corner drama that ended with him crashing before pushing his machine over the line for 15th place and the final World Championship point.

“Every weekend this year we have been challenging for podiums,” recalled Haslam. ”I’ve been pretty close to the win each weekend and now want to do the same in the USA this coming weekend.”

He continued: “Last year Miller was one of our worst race weekends and I am interested to see how the S1000RR works this year with all the improvements we have made and with our competitiveness so far in 2012.

“One problem last year at Miller was the constantly changing conditions so it was not easy to find a good race set-up. But we have been watching the forecast for this weekend and the weather looks like being good with temperatures possibly reaching as high as 30 degrees - so hopefully we are going to have some sun and stability.”

Haslam concluded: “The circuit at Miller Motorsports Park is a mixture of many different elements and quite unique. For whatever reason, Carlos Checa’s way of riding seems to suit this track but I have finished second there before so I know we can be strong.”

Practice and the opening qualifying session are on Saturday with final qualifying and Superpole on Sunday and the two 21-lap races on Monday, the Memorial Day bank holiday.
