Hard work continues

by Colin Ingley

Despite the natural lull after the season’s end, Matlock Water Polo Club’s work towards improving and getting ready for the 2013 campaign continues.

Club president Jim Evans put aspects into context when interviewed this week. “We set a highly ambitious five-year plan at the beginning of this year and although we are disappointed that the youth development side of things is progressing more slowly than we had hoped, we are still getting new players coming down and we are subtly moving forward.”

The club is still trying to finalise a junior session time and venue and these details will be made available once confirmed.

Meanwhile, new younger players are joining and some of the more established members are returning after being away. Jon Clarke, who temporarily left two years ago to pursue a ski instructor career in France, has recently been back training after knee surgery.

Jon, who also surfs, gels his hair and drives fast cars including a Porsche, denied being a playboy-type figure when recently asked. He also refuted claims that he would play Bond in a movie entitled Slopefall at the time of going to press.
