Hanson leads way as Shipley earn a draw

DANNY Hanson’s sparkling innings of 71 put Shipley Hall in a good position at Belper Meadows on Saturday.

The visitors batted first with Mark Starr and Terry Gainey puttin gon 50 for the first wicket in a sound opening stand.

Shipley moved to 72-3, all three wickets being lbw victims, with Starr having scored a useful 34.

Hanson and James Cockayne then dominated proceedings with an excellent stand of 120, with Hanson hammering five sixes and several fours in his blistering 71 and Cokayne offering good support on 41.

With 192 on the board Shipley looked in a strong position but then lost both batsmen quickly without adding any more runs.

Belper bowler Matt Murfin enjoyed a purple patch and finished with 6 for 36 as Shipley ended all out for 202.

When Belper batted they started slowly and seemed unable to provide the impetus to match Shipley’s score.

They eventually reached 52-4 before Tom Buckley and Chris Henson came to the wicket and between them put on 65 runs, but by then it was a case of too little, too late.

Belper finished on 102-6, with Tom Starr taking two wickets and Ryan North, Cokayne, Hanson and Grant Small adding one wicket each.

Shipley took 17 points to Belper’s 11.
