Last Saturday saw the Pinvin Road Race take place in Worcester.
Ripley cycling ace Mike Allen travelled down for the race with fellow Belper Bicycle Club riders Bill Cotton, Mike Allen and Derrick Woodings.
Mike and Derrick were riding their first race of the year. Mike was opting to make this prestigious event his first serious road target of 2014.
They rode a race of five laps on an eight-mile circuit for riders of age 55-plus.
The race started at a very brisk pace which was a welcome warm-up for their cold bodies.
Derrick was up front for the first three miles but unfortunately suffered a front wheel puncture, resulting in an early bath. The race carried on and Mike Allen launched a vicious attack on lap two, gaining a substantial lead, eventually increasing this to a five-minute gap for him to win and to achieve his first target for 2014.
On the back of this, Mike then won his age category in the LVRC Solihull Circuit Race at the weekend by winning a bunch sprint. Derrick Woodings managed an age category win in what was a tough West Midlands race.
