The start of the Derby 10K 2012

The start of the Derby 10K 2012

Sporting Futures, organisers of the annual Derby 10k event, have announced that next year’s event will be held on Sunday, April 28, and are encouraging you to get your entry in.

The start venue for the Derby 10k, 3k Walk•Jog•Run and 3k Wheelchair event is once again Pride Park Stadium, where the atmosphere will be buzzing with the excitement, with lots of activities and stalls to entertain spectators in the Race Village. The Derby 10k is again sponsored by The Derbyshire Building Society.

Sporting Futures is hoping that the success of London 2012 will inspire more people than ever to take part in the event.

Event manager Richard Kay said: “The event is now in its 12th year and is growing from strength to strength, with places selling out for the past six years, so entering as soon as possible is recommended.
He added: “As always, it is guaranteed to be a fun day for all the family to come along to. After running through the heart of Derby city centre for the Derby 10k or along the River Derwent for the Derby 3k Walk•Jog•Run, the finish line will be spectacular. Participants will accelerate down the finishing straight at the side of the pitch in Pride Park Stadium to the roar of spectators eagerly awaiting their arrival.”

All profits will go directly to the Derbyshire-based charity Sporting Futures, working with partners to reduce the risk of crime and antisocial behaviour throughout Derbyshire communities by encouraging targeted young people to participate in physical recreation.

People can enter online on the new Derby 10k website www.derby10k.co.uk If people enter before Christmas Day, they will be entered into a draw to win a pair of New Balance running shoes, courtesy of The Derby Runner. The earlier people enter, the less they will pay for registration as prices will rise in April 2013.
