Derbyshire restrict Kent to 379 on second morning in Canterbury
Kent captain Sam Northeast was dismissed nine short of a maiden double hundred as Derbyshire restricted the hosts to a first innings of 379 on the second morning of their Specsavers County Championship match in Canterbury.
Northeast improved upon his career best but, with his score on 191, he was caught at long-on when attempting to clear the ropes against spinner Chesney Hughes. He batted for over six hours, faced 266 balls and hit 22 fours.
Kent also lost James Tredwell (12) and Mitch Claydon (4) in the opening hour as the hosts missed out on a fifth batting bonus point by 21 runs. Tony Palladino finished with four for 76, while Will Davis bagged three for 86 before limping off mid-over having injured himself when trying to gather in the ball in his follow-through.
Derbyshire openers Hamish Rutherford and Billy Godleman batted for an hour through to lunch and had few alarms in posting 47 without loss from 17 overs.
