Midtable Denby CC 1sts managed to hang on for a draw against high-flying Sandiacre Town on Saturday in the Derbyshire Premier League.
Sandiacre were asked to bat first by Denby skipper Joe Greenhalgh but got off to a promising start thanks to the efforts of openers James Chapman and Mitch McCann.
The latter had made 28 when he departed with the score on 78.
Oliver Swann (18), Curtley Read (21), Robert Cook (23) and Andy Rhodes (23) all chipped in with decent scores, providing support for star performer Chapman, who eventually made 78, including eight fours and a six.
John Jordison added 25 not out in the final overs and the eventual Sandiacre total was a very healthy 268-8 from 50 overs.
For Denby, Rehan Hassan took four wickets while Fraser Kirk chipped in with two wickets.
When it came to Denby’s reply, they also had a good start to the innings, courtesy of openers Alexander Eyre (22) and Brad Davis (45).
The biggest stand of the innings resulted in 99 runs between Peter Burgoyne and Joe Greenhalgh.
The Denby skipper made 47 while Burgoyne top scored with 64, an attacking knock that came off 71 balls and featured five fours and four sixes.
Daniel Burgoyne made 23 and at 221-5 Denby were in a promising position but four quick wickets meant that they were faced with the prospect of hanging on for a draw, which they successfully achieved, finishing on 239-9.
Daniel Wheeldon took four wickets for Sandiacre.
Denby 2nds were in Division 3 action against Morton Colliery and won by 35 runs while the 3rds lost in Division 5N by seven wickets.
Finally, the 4ths bowled out Belper Amateurs for 36 to win by 149 runs. Amy Lacey took a superb 7-24 for Denby.
