Round Three of the North Midlands Cross Country league took place at Shipley Country Park with Heanor Running Cub hosting this event for the first time.
Several hundred runners converged on Shipley Park from Midlands counties extending down to Northamptonshire and beyond, albeit with most competitors originating from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
In this relatively high standard of club racing, Ripley fielded the required complement of three for a ladies team but were short of male athletes on the day so did not record a mens team result.
For the ladies, first home for Ripley RC in 29th position and a time of 34.28 was Cathy Cresswell who continues her great racing performances, following on from the Snowdon Marathon and more recently the Clowne Half Marathon.
Second Ripley lady in 57th place/38.24 was club secretary Eleanor Robinson and completing the team was Alison Butlin ,who finished in 61st place out of the field of 73 finishers in a time of 39.58.
The four men who completed the 10k cross country course on the day were Dean Taylor 65th / 38.16, Richard Phillis 123rd / 42.42, Jeremey Bateman 152nd / 47.06 and Karl Tietz 162nd / 47.56. 193 men finished the race.
Ripley Running Club meets every Tuesday at 6.45pm at RIpley Leisure Centre and encourages runners of all abilities to come and join them for a run.
Now is an ideal time to start running with plenty of spring races to aim for or simply as part of your early New Year’s resolution to get fit in 2014.
