The Sheffielder began his career with pub side Bradway FC and held a coaching role with Sheffield United Under 21s last season.

Spireites boss Danny Wilson said experience will stand Duke in good stead with his charges.

“Matt has had a terrific career so he will have the respect of the keepers he works with,” said Wilson.

“I think he has a great future ahead of him as a goalkeeping coach and it should be a seamless transition as he replaces Mark Crossley.”

Chesterfield have been linked with Shrewsbury centre-half Nathaniel Knight-Percival who looks set to leave the Shrews.
