Change of first team coach at Heanor Town
Heanor Town have seen some back room changes during the close season with first team coach James Whitehead replaced by Danny Cox.
Whitehead, has given up the position to continue playing and has signed for AFC Sutton Town for the new season.
He initially joined the Lions as a player for the 2010/2011 season and during that campaign, in which the Lions finished third in the East Midlands Counties League, he made 37 appearances and scored 9 goals.
At the end of the season he gave up playing because of a knee injury and took over the mantle of coach in Heanor’s title winning season last term. He still made a couple of substitute appearances.
Equally popular with the playing staff as a player and a coach, the club thank him for his past services and wish him well for the future.
Taking the place of James as club coach with the first team is a familiar name to supporters in Danny Cox.
Danny first joined the club in 2009 and in season 2010/11 made 14 first team appearances as a central defender, scoring one goal. He left the club during the course of that season to join Gresley assisting them to the East Midlands Counties League title.
Danny spent part of last season playing and coaching with Holbrook Sports and has rejoined the Lions with immediate effect to take up the new position. Heanor joint manager Glenn Kirkwood said of the appointment: “We are looking forward to working with him”
