Amber Valley Hornets’ second team - informally known as The Bees - rounded off a superb season of success with a fixture at home against Belper 4ths.
The Bees were attempting to go the whole term without a league defeat and were ultimately successful in this bid.
The Bees immediately took control with some superb passing moves and opened the scoring on five minutes with Carla Fox sliding a ball through the Belper defence for Helen Henley to apply the finish.
The second came on 20 minutes with a length-of-the-pitch move, crossed in from the right by Jamie Garner and put over the goalline at the back post by Caroline Scott.
The home side were in complete control but could not break down the Belper defence again before the half-time whistle, the Belper goalkeeper making a string of excellent saves.
Belper started the second period brightly and via their very fast centre forward finally achieved an attempt on goal. Keeper Jade Lawman was up to the task however and kicked away comfortably.
The Bees reasserted their control of the game soon after, however, via a fierce short corner strike from Abi Grocutt to make it 3-0. The visitors were then reduced to ten players as one of their defenders took a nasty looking blow to the foot and could not continue.
The game ended as a contest with the Bees’ fourth and final goal coming from Helen Charlton again via a powerful strike from a short corner routine. Charlton followed this by her interesting “shopping trolley” goal celebration which put the gloss on the now relaxed League Champions’ party atmosphere.
Amanda Lanyon was voted Player of the Match for a superb controlling display.
