Caps handed to quartet

WITH Derbyshire flying high at the start of the 2012 season, the Club has awarded four integral players their County Caps.

Jonathan Clare, Wes Durston, Tony Palladino and Martin Guptill received their caps prior to the commencement of day three between Derbyshire and Gloucestershire at The County Ground; the result of which could see Derbyshire return to the summit of the LV= County Championship Second Division.

Coach Karl Krikken said: “We award caps to players who have established a permanent position in the first team over a period of time.

“All four individuals on this thoroughly deserved accolade.

“Our talented young team have made an excellent start to the 2012 season.

“These four cricketers are a shining example of how to make those impressive performances consistent and in becoming integral members of the side.

“As well as producing excellent performances, all four of these guys are excellent professionals and popular characters within the squad.”

Each of the newly capped quartet has a notable story to tell.

Guptill is gaining valuable experience in County Cricket as his flourishing international career with New Zealand gathers momentum.

The capping of Clare completes a five-year cycle from second XI pretender as recently as 2007 to established first-class all-rounder in the current Derbyshire side.

Durston is the club’s reining Player of the Year just two years on from starting a summer of cricket without a county after departing Somerset.

Finally, Palladino played just 38 matches in eight years with his former club Essex.

After signing for Derbyshire in 2011, he is now playing his 18th match having already taken 70 first-class wickets in a Derbyshire shirt.
