Ambergate CC suffer an amazing defeat
Ambergate Cricket Club first XI’s Derbyshire County Cricket League Division Two title hopes were dented by an amazing defeat at mid-table Aston-on-Trent.
League leaders Ambergate were skittled out for just 75 runs from 26 overs as Rafaqat Ali finished with match-winning figures of 5-11 for the hosts.
In reply, Aston took 38 overs to get to their victory target of 76-7.
Going into the final weekend, any two from four teams could be promoted, never mind win the league.
Ambergate are nine points ahead of second-placed Rolleston and 18 points in front of third-placed Ockbrook & Borrowash seconds.
Ambergate now face two huge games on the last weekend of the season with title and promotion hopes resting on the results of them and those of their rivals on both days.
On Saturday they are at home to third-placed Ockbrook & Borrowash seconds and on Sunday, Ambergate travel to take on fourth-placed Denby seconds.
Both games start at 1pm.
