Players and officials at Stainsby Hall Cricket Club are set for a busy 150th anniversary year with an exciting selection of events lined up to mark the occasion.
The Smalley-based club was founded in 1863. It runs two senior Saturday teams, with the firsts playing in Division One of the Derbyshire County League and the seconds in Division 6N.
In addition, the club has started up a senior Sunday side for the 2013 season, playing in the Newark League.
There are also three junior sides, at under13s, under 11s and Kwik Cricket level.
Club secretary David Brown said members were looking forward to the season and the events that have been arranged to mark the 150th anniversary.
“We had a pretty good year in 2012 and I think we are more than holding our own as a club.
“The fact that we have been able to start up a Sunday side this year is a positive sign about how we’re doing.
“There is a lot of cricket played in this area so there is a lot of competition for players. When you think just down the road is Denby, one of the best sides in Derbyshire, I think we are doing well to get a third team started and the key is also to get players young, so we are happy to have three junior sides.
“We’ve got some nice events planned and it should be a good year for the club, so we are looking to forward to it on and off the pitch.”
Any seniors or juniors interested in playing for Stainsby Hall can call David on 01773 768229.
The first of the celebratory events is a dinner dance, to be held at Morley Hayes on March 22. Tickets are still available from Steve Cresswell on 01773 820861 or David Brown on 01773 768229.
After that comes a sponsored walk on April 7, which covers a distance of 10K up Kinder Scout.
David Brown explained: “We did it last year and raised £3,000 for ourselves and for Muscular Dystrophy, and we will raise money this year for the charity again.”
On May 22, there is to be a 20/20 game against a Derbysire XI that will include some of their first teamers. The match gets under way at 6pm.
Moving into August, there is to be a 50-overs-per-side game on August 13 against an MCC XI, starting at 11.30am, and then, on August 18, Stainsby Hall CC hosts the final of the Wright Cup for the first time.
There is also a golf day in May (date to be confirmed).
