Clowne Town (8pts) 182-4 [46 overs] (C Handley 33, M Linacre 75, J Kinsey 30*) lost to Selston Town (22pts) 185-8 [33.1 overs] (S Johnson 36, L Harris 66*, M Cook 3-58) by 2 wickets
SELSTON followed up on the previous week’s convincing win with a two-wicket success at Clowne Town despite travelling with several key players unavailable.
The home side side made a steady start until two quick wickets saw them reduced to 27-2. This brought to the crease big hitting Martin Linacre and together with Handley put on 60 until Handley was well caught by Harris for 33.
Linacre went for 75 and with the pedestrian batting of Kinsey (30no) Clowne finished their innings on 182 for 4 which looked about 40 short of a good total with so many wickets in hand.
This was due to some excellent bowling and fielding but while Jay Bailey ended up wicketless his 14 overs for 43 runs was one of the best leg spin bowling displays for a long while.
Selston opener Bexon was soon back in the pavilion and Ed Storr soon followed thanks to being caught behind from a ball rising sharply off a length
With Knighton also out the very brittle tail was beginning to look exposed however a determined 36 from opener Steve Johnson together with some fine shots from Lee Harris brought Selston to within 30 runs of an unlikey victory until Johnson was out LBW.
Boundaries continued to rain and the winning shot was bludgeoned by Ian Wood (15no) and together with ‘Bomber’ Harris with a splendid 66 no gave Selston a deserved ,albeit unlikely 22 point victory with 12 overs to spare.
