Langley Mill’s 1st team travelled to Division One team Sawley and Long Eaton Park on Sunday in the cup and came away with a victory.
Sawley chose to bat first. The Millers started well and reduced Sawley to 43-2. From here Sawley started to take control with a 90-run stand before Bailey struck.
Cameron reached his 50 but the wickets started to fall at the other end. Sawley were reduced to 123-6 and eventually finished on 209-9 off their allotted 50 overs. Wharton finished with 3-34, Bailey 2-41, Holmes 1-36, Harrison 1-37.
Wing and Paul Bailey opened up for the Millers and moved the score to 30 off ten before Wing fell to Swain. Bailey was next to fall for a powerful 33 and the Millers were starting to wobble on 64-4 off 21.
Up stepped James Harrison and Sajendra Thimal and with a stand of 118 that effectively won the game. Both batted with patience as well as having some lusty blows in the locker. Thimal fell for an excellent 63 and this brought Wharton to the crease to help Harrison (63 not out) finish the job. This weekend they host Nutbrook (1.30pm). The seconds travel to Ambergate and the thirds are at Ockbrook.
